Bayern hold firm over Ribery

BERLIN (AFP) - Bayern Munich's star midfielder Franck Ribery admitted Friday he wants to leave the Bundesliga giants for Real Madrid while the Germans are insisting he will stay.

"I have decided: I want to leave," the 26-year-old midfielder told L'Equipe with the new Bundesliga season set to begin on August 7.

"It will be Real or nothing at all."

But Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has always insisted Ribery will stay.

Dutch coach Louis van Gaal took his first session on Wednesday since joining from AZ Alkmaar, but Ribery trained for only 45 minutes on Thursday morning before he quit with blisters and he completely missed the afternoon session.

"We are completely relaxed about the issue," said the Bayern boss.

"I have heard the statement from Franck: Either Real or nothing.

"And our clear answer is: nothing. Franck stays."

And Bayern are standing their ground with Manchester United, Chelsea and Barcelona all also reported to be interested in signing the Frenchman.

"There is the clear statement that we want to keep Franck in Munich," said team manager Uli Hoeness, who then joked about the situation.

"I wonder if Real's negotiator Pedro Jimenez knows the game Monopoly.

"It is a game we play here in Germany with children, Bayern played it two years ago and bought Park Lane, we have built four hotels on it.

"We will only let it go if we are broke or in an emergency.

"It is simply the case it is too valuable to us and expensive.

"Only if someone wanted to make a completely crazy bid would we consider it."

Madrid have already splashed out well over a hundred million euros this summer for superstars Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka as president Florentino Perez looks to recreate the Galacticos of 2004 when Zinedine Zidane, Michael Owen and David Beckham all played for Real.

It's clear then , Bayern are waiting some crazy bid for Ribéry. I hope Perez let them suffer between August and December with Franck acting like a little kid if they enjoy playing monopoly and they will be forced to sell with a normal price when they get fed up with him and lose their nerves .

Winter transfer window starts after 4 months and no club will buy a player who says Real or nothing , at least not Barcelona if he really said it .

Bayern would do well to get as much money for Ribery now. Let him go or it may be too late.

If I was Bayern's president I would sell him to Real now and get my money's worth.

I'm willing to be that, this time next year, Ribery will be worth considerably less than what he's worth now.

i think we should leave the bavarians alone with their foolish pride. Olly Kahn had informed them of the danger of keeping a recalcitrant player against his wish.it is apparent Ribery wants to win trophies and FCB is just out of the big league at themoment. you can take my word on this that Messrs Hoennes and RRummenigge will come crying and complaining in mid season. Bayern need to sell this present management and appoint some progressive minded folks to run Bayern. The present management led by these two are out of depth and lack ideas.

pure fucking bullshit. this issue over this player is pissing me off really. if he wants to go play for real let him go. if only i think real will fuck him up for good. will we ever seen another Steven Gerrard or any other loyal player? highly doubt that. football is all about money now. might as well start calling it soccer because its not the same as it used to be

Well Congratz to Bayern for sticking to their guns even though they can get their money in a second. It's right before their eyes and if they reach for it, they can grab it. But instead they realize that if they lose Ribery, their best player, to Real, they will look like sore losers to their fans and the whole world will have less respect for them. Who would ever want to watch Bayern play without Ribery in it? I mean look at what's happening to Milan. I'm sure many of you would have said let Kaka go if he was behaving this way, but look at what Milan has right now. Nothing! They can't even buy Dzeko from Wolfsburg. I mean for God's sake, this is Milan, one of the greatest clubs on Earth and they can't even buy a decent and exciting player. They're aiming for Crouch and Adebayor? None of them comes close to Kaka. Now think of Bayern. If they let Ribery go, who will they ever sign to replace him? No one can fill those shoes. Not only will they be losing fans and money because no one will buy merchendise like they used to and no one will come watch their games, but they would help make a rival Champions League team stronger. Bayern would be weaker in prestige and worldwide fame and fan base, financially, and as a team without Ribery. They have made the right decision only to let him go in case of an emergency or in case of an offer so big that they will afford to buy two stars that can replace him.

And if you need another example, look at Manchester United. What do they have after Ronaldo and Tevez? They replaced Ronaldo with Valencia?! They replaced Tevez with Owen?! My God! Those two will never even come close to making ManU what it used to be! That is why teams like Bayern are doing the right thing by holding to their stars. It is the same reason why Moratti opened the door for Ibrahimovic to leave, but put the price so high that he would be able to effectively replace him. There are no more stars out there. Seriously. Real is buying them all and making everyone else comparatively weaker as it makes itself stronger. For the sake of Bayern's fans, I hope they keep Ribery and say NO to money giants Real Madrid.

Alboi , you are proving everyday that you are new to football .You think it's shame towards the fans if they let Ribéry leave ?I think it's shame if your wife tells you I dont love you anymore and wants to change a man even she has a contract with you but still she can go .You cant lie to everyone that your wife loves you and force her to be with you.

I imagine more easier for fans to go to support the players who love the club than screaming the name of someone who doesnt like the club.

We have different opinions about football but I didnt expect you to be so low.

Bayern are respectable club but they will go more down with such cases . Milan are professional club , they chose a better way , give me I give you .You sound very jaelous in your comments alboi , ask any good young player he will tell you he dreams about Madrid , later when you sign him and offer to him everything still he will tell you I dream about the teams of legends !

Hollyice,

Thank you for calling me slow. I won't stoop to the level of calling you names.

The problem with you is that you see things from only one side. You see things as a Real Madrid fan, and that's it. You don't see things as a Bayern fan or as an Inter fan. Ask any Bayern Munich person to tell you what the best player in their team is. They will say Ribery. Then ask them if they would want to sell the best player in their team. What do you think they will say? I think you can guess this answer since you're so much smarter.

Now ask an Inter fan if they would want to see a rival CL team buy all the stars and become the strongest. Maybe you can guess the answer to this one too?

I support Bayern's decision and I dislike players who dishonor their contracts. You like disloyal wives. I don't. Apparently it is ok with you if the wife cheats on you and says I am going to marry another man. I don't love you any more. That man has always been my dream man and I only used you so I could marry him. I'm only using your analogy here. You see why it doesn't make sense?
