LONDON (AFP) - Wigan midfielder Wilson Palacios confirmed Friday he has extended his contract with the Premier League side.

The Honduran followed manager Steve Bruce from Birmingham in January.

But despite reported interest from top Premier League sides Palacios has opted to sign a new contract at the JJB Stadium, although the length has not been revealed.

The 24-year-old told the club's website: "Why would I want to leave Wigan? I've enjoyed every minute since linking up with manager Steve Bruce again and I love the Wigan fans.

"The climax to last season was amazing and I am proud to be playing with Wigan (in) the best league in the world."

Loyalty, good to see it once in awhile, though apparently he left Birmingham with his boss.
